Our Fascination with History

tumblr

To fathom any event of human history, one must accept its core, underlying facet: the whole of our history oscillates like a pendulum between human stupidity and human wisdom. At their peaks, the former propels wars and the latter attempts at (seldom adequate) redemptions.

Since such human irrationalities birth unpredictabilities and unforeseen consequences, history, therefore, becomes quite fascinating.

Often, we scramble for elements of our present to align with the pieces of the past. Unknowingness intrigues and frustrates humans. Hence, on finding even slightly familiar pieces, we instantly fall back on historical chronicles. Even when the confronted elements are not identical, we at least get to savour the limited certainty history bestows to us.
